Galaxy Watch Ultra2 & Watch9 At a Glance
Alongside the new foldables, Samsung also announced its next Galaxy Watch lineup at Unpacked on July 22, 2026. Both ship in Canada starting August 7.
- Galaxy Watch Ultra2: $949 CAD — now a full dive computer, with a 5,000-nit display, the brightest ever on a smartwatch
- Galaxy Watch9: from $519.99 CAD (40mm Bluetooth) — upgraded sleep apnea detection and a full Samsung Health overhaul
- Watch Ultra2 gets a 35% bigger battery and is 12% thinner despite it
- Watch9's battery is 20% bigger than the previous generation (40mm model)
Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Now a Real Dive Computer
The Ultra2 is Samsung's first Galaxy Watch built on the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, and the upgrade shows: a 5,000-nit display (Samsung says it's a first for any smartwatch), an 800mAh battery that's 35% bigger than before, and a body that's actually 12% thinner despite the larger battery, thanks to internal redesign. The band is 26% lighter too, using a new air pocket structure for a more comfortable fit during long wear.
The standout new feature is diving. Ultra2 is EN13319-certified as a diving instrument, rated 10ATM and IP69K for water and dust resistance, and automatically records depth, dive time, and water temperature the moment it hits the water. Samsung has also partnered with dive equipment brand Mares to add real-time ascent and descent rates plus safety decompression time — though that specific feature needs a separate app and isn't available until later this year. On land, a new Trail Run mode tracks elevation and climbing data in real time, and Nutrition Alert now includes hydration guidance based on estimated sweat loss.

Galaxy Watch9: Everyday Health, Refined
Watch9 isn't chasing the Ultra2's extremes — it's built to be worn all day, every day. It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with a slimmer body and the same lighter air-pocket band as the Ultra2. Battery life on the 40mm model is up 20% over the last generation, running on the same Snapdragon Wear Elite platform.
The bigger changes are in software. Samsung Health now organizes everything around five pillars — Activity, Mindfulness, Nutrition, Sleep, and Vitals — and Sleep Apnea detection gets an AI-driven upgrade that sorts breathing disruptions into three severity levels, building on the feature that earned Samsung FDA De Novo authorization back in 2024. Vitals tracks heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen to build a personalized baseline, feeding into a new Heart Health Score, plus Fitness Index and Daily Cardio Load for tailoring workout intensity and recovery time.

When does the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 ship in Canada?
August 7, 2026, alongside Watch9 and the new Fold8/Flip8 lineup. Pre-orders are open now.
What's the price difference between Watch9 sizes?
The 40mm starts at $519.99 CAD (Bluetooth) up to $599.99 CAD (LTE); the 44mm runs $559.99 to $639.99 CAD.
Can the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 actually track diving?
Yes — it's EN13319-certified as a diving instrument with 10ATM and IP69K resistance, and automatically logs depth, dive time, and water temperature. Advanced dive metrics through the Mares partnership arrive later in 2026 via a separate app.
Final Thoughts
These two aim at very different people: Ultra2 is built for someone who runs trails, dives, and needs a screen readable in direct sun, while Watch9 is the everyday health-tracking watch most people will actually want. At $949 CAD, Ultra2 isn't cheap, but the dive certification alone is a first for the Galaxy Watch line. If you'd rather not wait for August pricing and open box availability, the first-generation Watch Ultra above gets you most of the hardware story today.
